Business elite turn out for champagne and cakes

Some of the UK's most high profile business names came together this week to celebrate the launch of the new book from Channel 4's Chairman, Luke Johnson.

Tuesday's event at Patisserie Valerie in Spitalfields, London was attended by Lionel Barber (Editor, FT), Robert Peston (BBC Business Editor), Dominic Lawson (The Independent), Peter Bazalgette (Chairman, Endemol), and Brent Hoberman (co-founder, Lastminute.com). Plus a number of well-known business journalists from the national press.

The Maverick, published by Harriman House this week, is a collection of Luke's articles from The Sunday Telegraph. He now writes a weekly column in the Financial Times.

Managing Director of Harriman House, Myles Hunt, said: "The launch event was a great success. Luke is a well respected name in the business world and his book has already received a lot of praise. It was a novel idea to hold the party at one of Luke's eateries. And the champagne and cakes seemed to go down very well with our guests!"

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Luke Johnson is Chairman of Channel 4 Television and Risk Capital Partners. For eight years he wrote a weekly column on business in The Sunday Telegraph.

He was Chairman of PizzaExpress during the 1990s and is currently an owner and Chairman of Giraffe restaurants and Patisserie Valerie. He has also owned companies in recruitment, dentistry and retailing.

He graduated from Oxford and worked as a stockbroking analyst covering the media sector in the 1980s. He lives in London and is married with two children.
