eBay expert celebrates centenary

Author and eBay enthusiast Robert Pugh is toasting the success of his weekly newsletter this month, as the 100th issue is published. The eBay UK Bulletin built up nearly 1,000 subscribers in the first few weeks of its launch - and is now enjoyed by thousands more keen eBayers.

Robert says: "The eBay UK Bulletin reflects current events and reader concerns, there is never a dull moment as eBay is an ever changing marketplace. 100 issues later and I still love writing them...and my subscribers love reading them."

His bestselling book The eBay Business Handbook was a huge hit when it was published in 2006. It was followed last year by a new publication, eBay Q&A - a response to the business queries that Robert receives on a daily basis:

"Since starting The eBay UK Bulletin two years ago, I have been overwhelmed by the amount of interest shown by readers. Every week I receive scores of e-mails asking for advice, sharing experiences or just saying hello - fantastic!"

The quality of Robert's publications has been recognised by companies such as eSources; the UK’s largest wholesale directory. The trade portal rewards its lifetime members with a free copy of The eBay Business Handbook. Managing Director, Stefano Carboni says:

"Educating our customers is key to our success - we're here to help eBay businesses grow. The eBay Business Handbook assists us in doing so, by providing clear and concise information. Robert demonstrates how to successfully run a home business, and reach PowerSeller status. We want to encourage others to follow suit."

The centenary edition of The eBay UK Bulletin will feature the usual news, views and essential tips. Plus a special article on the best places to obtain new stock; a key part of the eBay experience.

Robert comments: "Having seen the distribution rise over the years, coupled with the great reader e-mails and positive comments, I am sure that I will still be writing the newsletter when I am 100."

Robert's Top Five Tips for eBay Business Success

1. Size matters; start small, get to know the eBay processes and marketplace, then expand.

2. Buy well; profit is often made when you place an order, so do your homework. Check www.esources.co.uk to find your wholesaler.

3. Watch your costs; trade with your head and not your heart. Don't get carried away with expensive upgrades and spend only what you need to.

4. Create a pleasant environment; your buyer cannot see you face to face, so ensure your eBay listings are non threatening and a happy place to shop.

5. Customer care; pack your items well, send them quickly and always let your buyer know what is happening with a quick e-mail.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Robert Pugh realised it was time for a change, after spending 24 years working for the same company within the corporate sales division.

He began selling on eBay in January 2003, initially by clearing his house of unwanted items, with very little knowledge of computers and no experience of selling via the internet.

The first few months proved to be a steep learning curve. But he soon became an established eBay Power Seller and has sold 18,000 items.

Now, aged 43, he has retired from full time work and uses eBay to generate an income as and when it is required.
