The most comprehensive book on lobbying

"If you read only one book on lobbying, make sure it's this one. Zetter's mastery of his subject proves why the industry voted him Public Affairs Personality of the Year 2008." - Francis Ingham, Director General & Managing Director, Public Relations Consultants Association

"The leading book on lobbying by the UK's leading expert. Lionel Zetter takes a comprehensive, in-depth approach and writes with authority and enthusiasm." - Elisabeth Lewis-Jones, President, Chartered Institute of Public Relations

"This will be the new Bible for lobbyists. An indispensable guide for public affairs professionals." - Neil Sherlock, Partner Public Affairs, KPMG

Lobbying is a global industry which thrives wherever democratic governments are established. In his latest book, Lionel Zetter covers the Westminster and Scottish Parliaments, and the Welsh, Northern Ireland and London Assemblies. He also examines the lobbying scenes in the USA, Brussels and Asia.

This book examines and explains all aspects of lobbying in an expert yet accessible manner. It studies the historical background to lobbying and the techniques employed by lobbyists around the world. In addition, Lionel also offers his advice on how to succeed:

1. The earlier in the policy-making process you engage, the greater your chance of success will be.

2. Establish relationships before you need help - never allow yourself to be put in a position where your first contact is an ask.

3. There are at least two sides to every argument - it is your job to present yours as convincingly as possible.

4. Never be dishonest or disingenuous - if you don't want to read about it in tomorrow's newspapers don't say it or don't do it.

5. Reputation is everything in lobbying - never jeopardise it for a quick win.

The author is an acknowledged expert in his field, and this book represents a distillation of his decades of experience. Lionel's 'top tips' are complemented by those supplied by some of the most senior lobbyists in the world, and there are also contributions from elected politicians.
