South African born and educated John Katz has B.A. and LLB degrees awarded by the University of the Witwatersrand. He practised law in Johannesburg before commencing a career in commerce where his experience included mining and marketing industrial base metas, international marketing and senior management appointments with two leading South African public companies. He came to the United Kingdom in 1979 to develop international marketing opportunities.
In the mid 1990s to gain the experience and qualifications required for participation in the financial services industry he worked as a researcher for an equity based hedge fund based in London where he also contributed to investing strategy.
Since the mid 1990s he has concentrated on investing strategies, financial journalism and writing. His last book 'The Goldwatcher - Demystifying Gold for Investors' was published in 2007. Contributions to financial media include business T.V interviews on alternative energy and a series of feature articles for The Sunday Business Newspaper on investing opportunities including investing in diamonds. He has been published on gold in the Investor’s Chronicle and other financial publications.
